The relationship between intercultural effectiveness and intercultural awareness and xenophobia among undergraduate nursing and vocational schools of health services students: A descriptive study

Students who will become health professionals should be educated according to universal standards of providing foreign patients with culturally satisfying care, free from discrimination. This study aims identify the relationship intercultural effectiveness and awareness xenophobia in undergraduate nursing students vocational schools services students. descriptive was conducted (N= 257) (N = 341) a region high refugee population Turkey. Data were collected through “Intercultural Awareness Scale,” Effectiveness “Xenophobia Scale.” Of all participants, 70.1% females, mean age 20.70 ± 2.64 years; 57% school students, 43% program. Female had significantly higher scores effectiveness, behavioral flexibility, (p 0.036, p 0.041, 0.001, respectively), interaction relaxation interactant respect < 0.001), while male 0.001). There negative correlation between Intercultural Scale total Xenophobia (r -0.085, r 0.182), there weak, positive 0.113). sensitivity is considered improved by including course content curriculum improve students' levels decrease their xenophobic prejudices.
